Fish Your Bass Off 2022

Fish Your Bass Off with 102.3 Coyote Country [CONTEST CLOSED]

Fish Your Bass Off 2022 Revised

Get ready to Fish Your Bass Off with 102.3 Coyote! We’re giving you a chance to win a $5,200 AC unit from Climate Control and all you have to do is catch some fish!

Did you know that smallmouth bass is a danger to the ecosystem in both Quail Creek and Gunlock State Parks? The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and the Utah Department of Natural Resources need the public’s help to stop this invasive fish from destroying the ecosystems in both parks and to remind the public about the importance of not introducing non-native species to our local waters. In other words, “Don’t ditch a fish!”

During the Fish Your Bass Off fishing tournament, participants are not only encouraged to catch one of our specially tagged fish but to also catch any smallmouth bass to help remove them from park waters. This fishing derby is a great way to have fun and help our local parks at the same time! For more information on the effects of smallmouth bass on both Quail Creek, Sand Hollow, and Gunlock State Parks click here.

So, here’s how the fishing derby will run: Starting May 2, 2022, during park hours,  fish at either Quail Creek State Park, Sand Hollow, or Gunlock State Park and try to catch one of our specially tagged fish. If you do catch a fish with a tag, remove the tag and take it to one of the following two locations:

  1. Redrock Broadcasting offices, 1664 S. Dixie Drive, Suite D 104, St. George, UT 84770 between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday
  2. Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Washington County Field Office, 451 SR-318, Hurricane, UT 84737, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

At the end of the contest, after June 19, 2022, we’ll randomly draw a winner from all of the submitted tags to win our GRAND PRIZE – a $5,200 AC unit from Climate Control.

A BIG thank you to our sponsor Climate Control in St. George!

Did you know? According to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, when you move live fish from one waterbody to another, it costs the state millions of dollars in treatment projects and lost revenue. Before you make the decision to illegally transport a fish — or fish with live bait — consider these consequences:

  • Illegally introduced fish often outcompete desired species
  • Transferring fish can introduce disease to water, destroying fish populations
  • Illegally introduced fish can negatively alter water quality, irrigation, and water delivery systems
  • Fish introduced unlawfully often escape into streams and rivers, devastating native species
  • Usually, the only method for removing unwanted fish involves killing all of the fish in a body of water
  • Chemical treatments to remove invasive fish are expensive and take a lot of time
  • Eradication of invasive species has a tremendous economic impact

So remember – DON’T DITCH A FISH!
